About Inneo Lab
Inneo Lab is a multihospital innovation collaborative that transforms clinical insight into meaningful industry innovation. We work at the intersection of clinicians, product development teams, and industry partners to shape opportunities, develop solutions, and help companies build products that are grounded in real clinical needs. Our work spans early concept shaping, product definition, development management, validation, and limited launch support.
Role Overview
We are seeking a strategic product manager who will take ownership of the end-to-end product development lifecycle and product operations for multiple products in our portfolio. This person will help validate vague or early problem statements and ideas to turn them into clear product requirements, partner closely with engineering and design teams during development, and support validation and limited launches in partnership with clinicians and industry.
This is not a narrow product role. It is ideal for someone who wants hands-on responsibility and the chance to grow beyond the traditional boundaries of product management and enjoys straddling upstream innovation strategy, project management and downstream commercialization, working closely with clinicians, industry, and engineering.
Candidates may come from one of two strong backgrounds:
(1) A clinical background such as PA, PT, RN or similar, paired with strong technical and business acumen (ideally an MBA), or
(2) A technical, engineering or product development background with extensive experience working directly with clinicians to commercialize products.
In both cases, we have a strong preference for individuals who have worked in early-stage startups, especially in roles requiring customer discovery or iterative product shaping, regardless of the outcome of the startup.
We value resourcefulness, creativity, and the ability to be a go-getter in an evolving environment. If you enjoy being scrappy and wearing multiple hats as needed to achieve organizational goals, you will thrive here.
Key Responsibilities
The Product Manager will own products across three stages of the lifecycle (discovery and assessment, development and execution, and validation through commercialization) partnering with clinicians, engineering, business development, and industry to identify opportunities, build strong business cases, deliver high-quality products, and support licensing or market transition.
Product Discovery, Assessment & Business Case development
- Contribute to pipeline health by proactively partnering with clinicians, the Business Development and Partnerships Manager, and internal clinical engagement teams to surface new problem statements and product opportunities.
- Work with Engineering teams, Clinical Engagement teams and Business Development Manager to understand and develop early problem statements and product ideas.
- Proactively identify and reach out to potential industry partners to vet problem statements, understand opportunity spaces and build long-term partnerships.
- Assess feasibility and commercial opportunity to enable decision-making regarding which products should be developed further at each stage gate.
- Create a strong business case including market opportunity, competitive advantage, IP strategy, regulatory pathway and reimbursement strategy to present to both internal decision-makers as well as potential licensees and acquirers.
- Help define the initial product vision, feature set, and user needs by conducting secondary research and interviews with clinicians and industry partners.
Product Development and Execution
- Serve as the upstream and downstream product manager for 3-5 products, each at a different stage of development.
- Partner closely with engineering and design teams to clarify requirements, evaluate feasibility, support QMS-compliant engineering, coordinate clinician & industry feedback, iterate and resolve issues quickly.
- Maintain and update roadmaps, requirements, feature definitions, timelines and feedback to inform future generations of product.
- Provide hands-on support to ensure products are built correctly and aligned with commercialization requirements.
Validation, Limited Launch, and Downstream Support
- Support small-scale product introductions or and marketing for later-stage products including a current product Inneo Lab has on the market. Represent the company at tradeshows and industry events, engaging with potential customers and partners.
- Prepare for licensing, handoff, commercialization support, or project closeout as needed.
Qualifications
- Bachelors degree in a STEM field. Clinical degree preferred. Advanced degree such as a Masters, PhD. and/or MBA is a plus.
- 5 or more years of experience in medical device product management (may be substituted with 5+ years of experience in medical device product development & commercialization).
- Complete understanding of the medical device innovation and commercialization pathway for all three classes of medical devices.
- Ideal candidates will also have experience in early-stage startups or customer discovery environments in academia (e.g. NSF I-Corps participation).
- Comfortable with ambiguity and shifting priorities. Must be scrappy, creative, and resourceful and able to move quickly without perfect structure. This role is not a good fit for someone looking to stay within a swim lane.
- Self-starter and fast learner who thrives in evolving environments—able to pivot, adapt, and be scrappy. Must be comfortable executing and delivering on commitments with limited supervision and training.
- Must be able to understand clinical problem statements as well as technical product ideas. Must have collaborated closely with engineering teams and clinicians in life science/medical product environments.
- Must have experience with opportunity analysis including developing market sizing and financial projections for early ventures.
- Understand U.S. Food and Drug Administration (FDA) regulations, product classifications, clinical studies, reimbursement, intellectual property, and any other aspects of medical device commercialization.
- Excellent communication and relationship-building skills; comfortable engaging senior leaders and clinical stakeholders.
- Experience and past success with cold outreach via LinkedIn and email to find and connect with subject matter experts is essential.
- Business acumen and the ability to think holistically about product direction, user needs, and industry alignment. Must have the ability to synthesize clinical, technical, and business input; communicate trade-offs and product decisions clearly to technical and nontechnical stakeholders, remain adaptable while decisions are forming, and drive alignment and accountability once direction is set.
- Must be able to use generative AI tools for day-to-day activities.
- Travel – May be required up to 15-20%
- U.S citizenship or legal permanent resident status required. No visa sponsorship will be available.
The role is expected to evolve and is not a good fit for someone who needs a lot of structure or an extremely well-defined swim lane. Conversely, it is an excellent fit for those who enjoy change, want to shape organizational strategy and write their own playbook.
