The Senior Reviewer, Code & Web Templates is responsible for reviewing, assessing, and maintaining quality standards across Envato’s broad code and web template categories, including Web Themes & UI Templates, Template Kits, WordPress, WordPress Plugins, Scripts, Plugins, and Code assets.
As Envato continues to evolve its Content Operations model, this role will help consolidate review expertise into a smaller, stronger, and more scalable team in Mexico. The Senior Reviewer will be expected to apply expert judgment across the full Code Review landscape, ensuring that submissions meet Envato’s technical, usability, security, originality, documentation, and commercial-quality expectations.
This role plays a critical part in protecting customer trust, supporting contributor quality, improving review consistency, and helping Envato maintain a high-quality marketplace experience across its web, theme, template, and code categories.
What you'll be doing
Scope of Review Coverage
- This role may review and support quality decisions across the following asset groups:
- Web Themes & UI Templates.
- Site Templates.
- UI Templates.
- Template Kits.
- ThemeForest categories, excluding areas that require separate specialists. handling where applicable.
- WordPress themes.
- WordPress plugins.
- Scripts.
- Plugins.
- Code assets.
- Front-end templates and components.
- Admin dashboards, landing pages, HTML templates, and related web products.
- PHP, JavaScript, CSS, HTML, and CMS-based assets. - Deep specialization in every domain is not required from the outset. However, this role requires a strong full-stack technical foundation, practical hands-on experience, and the learning agility necessary to effectively review, assess, and contribute across all relevant areas at a high professional standard.
Content Review & Quality Assessment
- Review and assess submissions across all code and web template categories against Envato’s technical, quality, usability, documentation, security, and commercial standards.
- Apply review criteria consistently across all asset types, including design quality, code quality, functionality, responsiveness, browser compatibility, accessibility, performance, security, dependency management, documentation, installation and setup experience, originality, and commercial value, while adapting standards to the specific expectations of each category.
- Identify and reject submissions that do not meet marketplace standards, including those with poor code quality, broken functionality, inadequate documentation, security concerns, excessive dependencies, low originality, poor usability, intellectual property risks, or limited commercial value.
- Provide clear, objective, and constructive review outcomes aligned with established review guidelines.
Risk Management & Escalation
- Identify complex, ambiguous, or high-risk submissions and escalate them to the appropriate stakeholders for further review.
- Recognize emerging category risks, contributor patterns, and quality concerns that may impact marketplace standards or customer trust.
Standards, Documentation & Continuous Improvement
- Support calibration activities to ensure consistency and alignment of review standards across the Code Review team.
- Contribute to the development and maintenance of review documentation, category standards, technical benchmarks, and reviewer enablement materials.
- Identify recurring contributor issues, operational bottlenecks, and opportunities to improve review quality, efficiency, and consistency.
- Stay current with modern web development practices, WordPress, JavaScript frameworks, UI/UX trends, plugin ecosystems, marketplace expectations, and AI-assisted development trends.
Team Collaboration & Operational Support
- Partner with Content Operations leaders to support the evolution of the review function, including the transition from a larger contractor model to a smaller, highly skilled, cross-functional Mexico-based review team.
- Maintain productivity and turnaround expectations while ensuring quality, consistency, and customer trust are not compromised.
- Act as a subject matter expert in code and web template review, supporting team knowledge sharing, reviewer development, and continuous improvement initiatives.
About you
Key Capabilities
- Strong full-stack development background with practical experience across front-end and back-end web development, including HTML, CSS, JavaScript, PHP, WordPress themes and plugins, scripts, and web templates - covering responsive design, browser compatibility, performance optimization, and accessibility basics.
- Strong understanding of WordPress ecosystems including template hierarchy, installation workflows, customization, dependencies, and common marketplace quality issues.
- Strong understanding of clean code practices, file organization, naming conventions, documentation standards, version compatibility, and user setup experience.
- Ability to identify common technical risks including broken functionality, poor code structure, weak security practices, performance issues, unsupported dependencies, and poor customer usability.
- Strong eye for commercial quality, customer value, modern design execution, and marketplace relevance.
- Ability to use AI-assisted tools to support review throughput, code analysis, and other workflow and productivity efficiencies.
- Ability to make consistent, objective, and well-reasoned review decisions across multiple asset categories.
- Strong written communication skills, with the ability to explain technical decisions clearly and professionally.
- High attention to detail with the ability to identify technical and quality issues quickly.
- Comfortable maintaining strong quality standards while meeting productivity and turnaround expectations.
- Ability to collaborate with global teams in a remote or hybrid environment.
- Fluent or strong professional proficiency in English.

Additional Experience
- Previous experience reviewing or creating assets for a digital marketplace.
- Familiarity with Envato’s marketplaces, including ThemeForest and CodeCanyon.
- Deeper specialisation in one or more areas beyond the required technical coverage.
- Experience in QA, technical validation, software testing, content review, or marketplace operations.
- Familiarity with intellectual property, licensing, open-source dependencies, and AI-assisted code generation risks as they apply to marketplace submissions.
- Experience supporting process improvement, reviewer calibration, documentation, or category quality standards.
