About the Role
We’re looking for an Engineering Manager to provide strategic leadership and guidance for our Infrastructure Platform or SRE teams. This role is less about individual coding and more about enabling and empowering others to be wildly productive. You’ll be the force multiplier for our entire engineering org — making sure we can constantly deliver well-tested, incremental customer value.
If you love setting a clear direction, coaching brilliant engineers , and owning the systems that power a world-class creative toolkit, then this is your stage. You’ll be managing a handful of staff, collaborating with product partners, and taking accountability for the quality of our entire technology stack. If you're passionate about continuous improvement and driving system reliability, come help us shape the future of creativity!
This role has global coverage across New Zealand, Australia, Mexico & Vietnam. So if you’re not opposed to embracing flexibility in order to work better with our people across different timezones, keep reading!
What you'll be doing
- Lead and guide the Infrastructure Platform and SRE teams, fostering a positive, collaborative, and high-performance culture.
- Drive delivery by organising team work, clarifying expectations, setting clear goals, and removing roadblocks for mid-to-large scale projects.
- Own, evolve, and take responsibility for our production systems, including their availability, security, and incident management.
- Promote a “you build it, you run it” approach and champion the internal developer platform, focusing on self-service and developer experience.
- Partner with Architects and Lead Engineers to align system architecture with the larger Envato technical ecosystem.
- Focus on sustainable solution-building, thinking in terms of reusable, scalable platforms and products—not just short-term fixes.
- Coach, mentor, and support your direct reports in their work and career development through regular 1:1s and performance reviews.
- Improve delivery processes and roadmaps to constantly increase delivery predictability.
- Manage commercial aspects like forecasting, budgets, and vendor relationships with the Senior Manager/Engineering Director.
About you
- You have previous people management, team leadership, and mentoring experience with Platform, Infrastructure, DevOps, or SRE teams.
- You're a master of excellent communication and stakeholder management, able to build relationships with technical and non-technical teams.
- You thrive in a team-oriented, collaborative environment, ideally with experience using Agile processes.
- You’re highly self-motivated and directed, demonstrating integrity and ethical behaviour in all interactions.
- You have a proven ability to empower and support teams to embrace change and align resources effectively with shifting priorities.
- You can proactively identify and address challenges, making informed decisions while balancing increased output with maintaining quality.
