A BIT ABOUT SIBEL HEALTH:

With headquarters based in Chicago, Illinois and an international office in Seoul, South Korea, Sibel Health is an award-winning digital health startup with a mission to deliver Better Health Data for All®. We were founded with a specific focus on our most vulnerable patients - pregnant persons and babies - where we believe wireless monitoring has the potential to do the most good worldwide. We achieve this by providing a complete monitoring solution of advanced wireless wearables, best in class software, and novel AI/ML algorithms all linked to the cloud. To date, we’ve launched our technologies in 20 countries from the most advanced hospitals in the world to the most resource constrained locations. We work with some of the most respected healthcare organizations in the world from major philanthropies to large medical technology and pharmaceutical companies. With numerous FDA clearances and a recently completed fundraising round, we are poised for growth and expansion. We are seeking mission-driven individuals with a strong sense of purpose who believe that technology can improve the lives of our most vulnerable patients.

THE OPPORTUNITY:

As Staff Android Engineer, you’ll lead the design and development of Sibel’s mobile SDK and Android applications that interface directly with our cutting-edge wireless monitoring sensors. These tools empower clinicians around the world to seamlessly capture and visualize critical patient data in real time.

In this hands-on technical leadership role, you will architect, optimize, and scale our Android ecosystem - building robust, maintainable, and regulatory-compliant solutions that define the next generation of connected healthcare. You’ll work closely with cross-functional teams across firmware, cloud, and data science, ensuring that Sibel’s mobile technology remains as reliable as it is revolutionary.

WHAT YOU WILL BE WORKING ON:

Lead Development and Architecture

  • Architect and maintain Android SDKs and mobile applications that connect with Sibel’s wireless sensors.
  • Optimize existing codebases and lead major refactors to improve scalability, stability, and performance.
  • Drive the end-to-end software lifecycle - from design and documentation to development, testing, and deployment.
  • Define and implement communication protocols between mobile clients and cloud services. Additionally, you will lead compliance with medical communications standards such as FHIR.
  • Ensure system reliability through robust unit, integration, and functional testing.
  • Lead by example in code quality, documentation, and design reviews.

Advance Technical Excellence

  • Conduct deep performance analysis, including memory profiling, CPU optimization, and leak prevention.
  • Integrate external APIs and data sources to enhance application capabilities.
  • Apply DevOps principles and support continuous integration and delivery (CI/CD) pipelines.
  • Ensure development practices meet FDA and regulatory documentation standards.
  • Champion secure, performant, and elegant mobile architecture patterns.

Collaborate and Innovate

  • Partner cross-functionally with hardware, cloud, and AI teams to deliver end-to-end system functionality.
  • Lead technical discussions, propose innovative solutions, and mentor engineers.
  • Stay ahead of emerging mobile technologies and bring forward new tools and approaches that improve efficiency and product quality.
  • Foster a culture of curiosity, excellence, and continuous improvement.

ABOUT YOU:

  • Deep expertise in Android development using Kotlin and the Android SDK.
  • Proven experience building mobile SDKs and applications at scale.
  • Experience with Kotlin Multiplatform Mobile (KMM) or cross-platform development.
  • Strong understanding of Android UI frameworks, OS internals, and performance optimization.
  • Proficiency with Android Studio and modern development tools (Git, JIRA, Gradle).
  • Experience writing and executing comprehensive unit and functional tests.
  • Knowledge of mobile communication protocols (REST, HTTP, TCP/IP) and wireless standards (Bluetooth, BLE, NFC, Wi-Fi).
  • Strong debugging and analytical skills with an eye for reliability and performance.
  • Familiarity with Agile or Kanban processes and CI/CD pipelines.
  • Excellent communication skills and a collaborative mindset.

YOU MAY THRIVE IN THIS ROLE IF:

  • Working knowledge of regulatory and quality standards such as HIPAA, ISO 13485, and IEC 62304.
  • Knowledge of mobile security best practices and secure data handling.
  • Background in digital health, IoT, or regulated medical software development.
  • Experience mentoring junior engineers and contributing to technical strategy.
  • Familiarity with DevOps workflows and cloud integration for mobile backends.
  • Knowledge of mobile architecture trends, Jetpack Compose, or modular SDK design.
  • Familiarity with DevOps workflows and cloud integration for mobile backends.
