Role summary

Puzzle Medical Devices is seeking a Metrology Technician to join our team. This role is critical to ensuring the accuracy, reliability, and quality of components and assemblies used in our medical devices. The Metrologist will perform precision measurements, inspections, and analyses of components, prototypes, and production parts, supporting product development, manufacturing, and quality assurance activities. The successful candidate will help maintain high standards of dimensional and visual specifications while contributing to continuous improvement initiatives across the organization.

Responsabilities

Precision Measurement & Inspection

  • Perform dimensional and visual inspections of components, assemblies, and prototypes using advanced metrology equipment, including Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs), optical measurement systems, and precision hand tools.

  • Develop and execute inspection plans based on engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T requirements.

  • Program and operate CMM equipment and associated software.

Quality Assurance & Quality Control

  • Verify that components conform to specified dimensions, tolerances, and acceptance criteria.

  • Identify, document, and communicate non-conformances, deviations, and inspection findings.

  • Support root cause investigations and corrective actions related to dimensional and quality issues.

Data Analysis & Reporting

  • Analyze measurement data to identify trends, process variation, and opportunities for improvement.

  • Generate detailed inspection reports and provide recommendations to engineering, manufacturing, and quality teams.

  • Participate in Measurement System Analysis (MSA), Gauge R&R studies, and process capability assessments.

Collaboration

  • Work closely with Engineering, Manufacturing, Supply Chain, and Quality teams to support product development, validation, and production activities.

  • Provide metrology expertise during design reviews, process development, and supplier qualification activities.

Continuous Improvement

  • Contribute to the development, validation, and optimization of inspection methods and measurement processes.

  • Support implementation of best practices in metrology, inspection, and quality systems.

Qualifications & Experience

  • Technical diploma or degree in Metrology, Mechanical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or a related field.

  • Minimum of 3 years of experience in metrology, dimensional inspection, or quality control in a regulated manufacturing environment.

  • Experience in the medical device industry is preferred.

Knowledge & Skills

  • Strong understanding of dimensional metrology principles and measurement uncertainty.

  • Proficiency with Coordinate Measuring Machines (CMMs) and inspection software, preferably Zeiss Calypso.

  • Ability to read and interpret engineering drawings, specifications, and GD&T (ASME Y14.5).

  • Familiarity with quality management systems and standards such as ISO 13485 and ISO 9001.

  • Understanding of calibration systems, MSA, and statistical process control methods.

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

  • Exceptional attention to detail and commitment to accurate documentation.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills.

  • Strong organizational skills with the ability to manage multiple priorities.

  • Ability to work independently while collaborating effectively within cross-functional teams.
