Position Summary
The Director of Operations will be responsible for coordinating and optimizing the company’s production activities and manufacturing operations. This person will play a key role in managing strategic external suppliers, production planning, the development of manufacturing infrastructure, and the execution of cleanroom operations.
Responsabilities
Operations and Production Management
Develop and maintain a comprehensive production plan encompassing order schedules, batch launch timelines, and manufacturing priority coordination.
Translate organizational objectives into concrete, executable production tasks with clear ownership and deadlines.
Optimize workflows and operational processes to ensure efficiency, quality, and on-time delivery.
Participate in the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of production infrastructure.
Proactively identify operational risks and develop mitigation strategies; act as the first line of response when production issues arise, driving swift resolution to minimize impact on schedules and quality.
Cleanroom Operations
Oversee and coordinate all cleanroom assembly activities, ensuring compliance with applicable standards and internal procedures.
Monitor cleanroom performance metrics and implement corrective actions as needed.
Collaborate with engineering teams to refine cleanroom processes and support the scale-up of production activities.
Strategic Supplier Management
Build, manage, and develop long-term relationships with strategic external suppliers, serving as the primary operational point of contact.
Lead supplier negotiations, including contracts, pricing, lead times, and terms, in collaboration with the procurement team.
Conduct recurring visits to critical suppliers to assess performance, strengthen partnerships, and ensure alignment with Puzzle Medical's technical and quality requirements.
Ensure supplier compliance with contractual deadlines, quality standards, and technical specifications.
Proactively identify supply chain risks, develop mitigation strategies, and act as the first line of response when supplier issues arise.
Team Leadership and Cross-functional Coordination
Own the Metrology, Machine Shop, Cleanroom, Finishing, Supply Chain, and Facilities teams, ensuring clear priorities, strong execution, and team development at all levels.
Lead, mentor, and coordinate the operations team, fostering a culture of accountability, continuous improvement, and operational excellence.
Own the operations budget, including headcount planning, supplier spend, and capital expenditures, ensuring alignment with organizational objectives.
Drive the development and standardization of manufacturing methods, work instructions, and operational processes.
Collaborate closely with engineering, procurement, and quality teams to ensure seamless project execution and alignment with organizational priorities.
Qualification & Experience
Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Automated Production Engineering, Robotics Engineering, Biomedical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or a related field.
5 years of experience in a role with similar responsibilities.
Demonstrated experience managing multidisciplinary teams.
Experience in a regulated manufacturing or medical environment.
Knowledge & Skills
Demonstrated knowledge of machining processes.
Good understanding of technical drawings.
Understanding of assembly techniques (an asset).
Bilingual in French and English. The role requires communication with colleagues, suppliers, and clients internationally.
Excellent organizational skills and ability to manage multiple priorities simultaneously.
Strong leadership skills with a proactive approach.
Excellent planning and execution abilities.
Analytical mindset with a solution-oriented approach.
Ability to thrive in a fast-growing environment.
Demonstrated expertise in manufacturing processes, with the ability to critically assess and challenge supplier proposals, quotations, technical claims, and the quality of work at any stage of production, including in-process and completed parts.
Work Conditions
100% on-site work.
Ability and willingness to travel on short notice to supplier sites, contract manufacturers, or partner facilities as operational needs demand.
