About Glyphic:

At Glyphic Biotechnologies, we plan to create the protein revolution for which scientists and researchers have been waiting. We are developing a massively parallel, single-molecule proteome sequencing platform that will transform life science discovery and usher in a new era of insights into human biology and disease. To date, we have raised >$80M from venture partners and non-dilutive grant funding to achieve our vision of next generation proteome sequencing.

What we are looking for in you

We are seeking a highly analytical, creative, and collaborative Staff/Senior Scientist with a passion for advancing proteomics technologies and workflows. In this pivotal role, you will report to the Vice President of Research and Development where your work will help advance Glyphic’s single-molecule proteome sequencing platform. You will lead the development, optimization, and execution of advanced sample preparation, enrichment, and orthogonal mass spectrometry based proteomics workflows across diverse biological matrices. You will work with a multidisciplinary team that include chemists, molecular biologists, and engineers to drive high-throughput and automated solutions. The ideal candidate is recognized for their expertise with mass-spectrometry based proteomics technologies, and can independently design and troubleshoot complex experiments, critically evaluate data, and communicate findings clearly to both technical and non-technical audiences. Experience with novel enrichment approaches, alternative protein characterization techniques, and automated workflows will be a key asset. In this role, you will have the unique opportunity to directly shape the future of single-molecule protein sequencing, enabling transformative discoveries in life science by making robust, scalable, and real-world-ready sequencing solutions a reality.

This is a full-time, exempt, in-person position with work conducted at our Berkeley, CA location.

What you’ll do

Sample Preparation & Protein Enrichment
  • Develop and optimize sample preparation workflows for proteomics across diverse biological matrices, including cells and tissues
  • Design and execute methods to isolate cell surface proteins, including chemical labeling and enrichment approaches
  • Apply and innovate protein and peptide enrichment strategies (e.g., affinity capture, fractionation, PTM-specific enrichment)
  • Assess new sample types, determine appropriate analytical strategies, and develop protocols for protein extraction and purification
  • Collaborate with chemists and engineers to scale workflows and integrate protocols into high-throughput and automated platforms
Experimental Design & Chemical Biology
  • Design and execute mass spectrometry–based proteomics experiments, including discovery, targeted, and quantitative workflows
  • Apply peptide chemistry techniques, including synthesis, modification, labeling, and derivatization
  • Utilize chemical biology tools such as probes, crosslinkers, and activity-based reagents to interrogate protein function and interactions
Mass Spectrometry & Analytical Platforms
  • Operate, optimize, and troubleshoot LC–MS/MS systems (e.g., Q-TOF, Astral, nanoLC)
  • Develop acquisition methods tailored to sensitivity, coverage, and quantitative accuracy
  • Evaluate and compare LC–MS–based proteomics workflows against orthogonal protein sequencing and characterization technologies, such as antibody-based methods, Edman sequencing, single-molecule protein sequencing, or emerging proteomics platforms
Data Analysis, Evaluation & Technology Assessment
  • Process, analyze, and critically evaluate complex proteomics datasets
  • Use industry-standard proteomics software and pipelines (e.g., MaxQuant, Proteome Discoverer, Skyline, Spectronaut, PEAKS, or equivalent)
  • Perform quantitative and statistical analysis to assess data quality, reproducibility, and biological relevance
  • Stay current with advances in proteomics technologies and advise on platform selection and experimental strategy
Collaboration & Communication
  • Work cross-functionally with chemists, biologists, computational scientists, and engineers
  • Document methods, generate SOPs, and contribute to best practices
  • Present results clearly to technical and non-technical audiences
